Join us in taking a look at Melisa Anger's beautiful images and a little more about her below! If you're not already, you will become a fan like I have!
Please tell us about yourself…
Hi! My name is Melisa Anger, I am behind the lens of Capturing Moments With A Click. I am a California girl living in New Jersey with three of my favorite people in the world, two call me Mom and one I call my Hubby. The three of them have put up with me taking pictures every day for the last 3 years. Other then photography I am a lover of light, wine and Giants baseball!
Can you describe your style in 3 words? Why those words?
This is hard for me because I have never been one to be boxed in. I would say Lighthearted, Balanced and Unscripted.
Lighthearted.... I document our silly life and our fun adventures and though I capture our low times too, it is the daily smiles and moments I love the most.
Balanced....I like a little of everything, from sun flare to low light. Though my images are natural and unposed, I love a good portrait every once in awhile. I focus on the people in my life but I also love to get nature images, street photography and landscape.
Unscripted....It is very rare I ask my kids to pose for me. I love the in the moment captures, when my kids are in their environment, comfortable doing their own thing. I always have my camera at arms reach just in case!
What sparked your passion for photography?
I have always loved photography. My mom took a lot of pictures when we were kids and always had them hanging on the walls. When I was a teacher I found myself incorporating photographs into student work. Then when I had my daughter my love of photography really was ignited. I just saw how fast time was going and it was my way of keeping memories, plus it became the creative outlet I was missing when I left teaching.
What's in your camera bag right now?
Oh boy...I have a couple bags to store my gear.... I have the Nikon d750 and usually on it is my favorite lens the Nikon 24mm 1.4. I almost always have the Nikon 135 f2 in whatever bag is with me and one of my creative lenses. I also have the Nikon 50mm 1.4, Sigma 35 art, Tamron 45mm 1.8, Lensbaby edge 50, Lensbaby velvet 85m, Lensbaby twist, Helios 44, Nikon n75 film camera, some film rolls, a copper pipe and a prism. Then there are a bunch of random things....hair ties, stickers, extra lens caps, lipstick, hot wheels cars and rocks!
What is your dream shoot or project?
Well realistically my dream shoot would be my kids, in matching gorgeous outfits, that aren't stained or dirty, on the beach at sunset. If I am reaching for the stars it would be to work with Danny Clinch, photographing concerts and musical artists like Pearl Jam or Bruce Springsteen.
What are some of the misconceptions you had about photography and photographers at the beginning of your photography journey? Have they changed, and how?
I think that perfection was my biggest misconception. I thought I always had to follow the rules, have styled shots, have props to be considered good and I would try to do what my favorite photographers were doing. First off this is not my personality at all...styled shoots take planning and I don't work that way most of the time. I now just do my thing with photography, my images are spontaneous, if I break rules oh well, I have learned to love images with flaws...if I am happy with the image that is what matters.
What advice would you give to newbie photographers? What advice do you wish you'd been given at the very beginning?
Just keep clicking. If you have a passion for photography take the time to learn not only the art of photography but your camera and be patient. Shoot from your heart and everything else will fall into place.
